Subject: Urgent Complaint Regarding Fraudulent Sale of Camel Milk at Farmers Markets

Dear Ambassador Jayawardena,

I am writing to formally bring to your attention a matter of concern that I believe affects the reputation of Indonesian products and the trust of consumers here in Sri Lanka. I am a concerned citizen who has recently discovered instances of fraudulent activity at local farmers markets, where vendors are selling products misrepresented as “camel milk.”

Upon investigation, I have strong reason to believe that these products are not genuine camel milk. Evidence suggests that the milk being sold is either a diluted substitute or an entirely different type of milk, falsely labeled to capitalize on the high demand and perceived health benefits associated with authentic camel milk. I am particularly concerned that this fraudulent labeling might also be used to conceal the origin of the products, potentially misattributing them to Indonesia, which is known for its diverse agricultural and livestock sectors.

I am bringing this to the attention of the Indonesian Embassy because such fraudulent practices can have several negative repercussions:

  1. Health and Safety Risks: Consumers, including those with specific allergies, are being misled about the product’s contents, which poses a potential health risk.
  2. Economic Impact: It undercuts legitimate dairy producers, including any potential importers of genuine Indonesian agricultural products.
  3. Reputational Damage: If these fraudulent products are falsely attributed to Indonesia or if the issue is perceived to affect the integrity of products in the market, it could inadvertently harm the reputation of authentic Indonesian food products and the country’s agricultural exports in Sri Lanka.

I kindly request the Embassy’s assistance in investigating this matter or in advising on the appropriate channels (such as Sri Lankan consumer protection or health authorities) to ensure that fraudulent activities are stopped. Protecting the integrity of food products is essential for consumer safety and fair trade, and I hope the Embassy can help address this issue.

Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter. I look forward to your guidance.

Sincerely,

Nilan Perera
